Farm & 5K

On Thursday, I went with Lyla's class to the farm for their field trip. It was so much fun! Lyla didn't enjoy it quite as much as I hoped she would. She still isn't as emotional as I expect her to be by now, but it will come with time! Here are some pictures of our fun day! By the way, ignore her hair, she was determined to do it herself! We are trying to grow it out because every morning when she gets out of bed, she gets a barette and clips her bangs straight back out of her face!

Notice, the I love worm poop sticker...

Back at school...she slept for 25 minutes!

This morning was the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure in Rogers. Liem has wanted to run a 5K with Jeff for a long time now, and today was the day. We woke up at 6:00 to thunderstorms, but that won't stop these two boys! By race time, it was just sprinkling, they had a blast! Liem completed the run (no walking) in 31:55!!! I am so proud of this sweet boy!

Of course, Lyla had to come and support Liem!
Running to the finish line!
He made it!!!
Hugs from his sister!

Beautiful Life

So, I'm a mom to two kids now, and it is still unbelievable to me! From the moment we adopted Liem I always assumed that we wouldn't be able to adopt again. Like we have all heard before, we plan, God laughs (there is a book out by this name that I haven't read yet. If anyone has read it, let me know)! I am happier than I've ever been. I never realized how much Liem was missing by not having any siblings. He still adores Lyla, and I hope he continues loving her for the rest of his life! I know that once they can communicate there will be fights, but right now, all is perfect! He is so excited to see her after school! They play so well together, God obviously blessed us more than we deserve! I leave my third baby out too much, so here is a picture of big Diesel!
Today, Lyla had a great day at school! Her teachers said it was her best day yet! Mrs Lyman asked me this morning if I thought it would help if Lyla had a chance to rest in the middle of the day. I told her that would be a great idea since she tires so easily. After lunch, Mrs Lyman had Lyla sit at her desk and lay her head down. She stayed like that for 10 minutes, then got up and joined the kids on the carpet! We think that short rest helped her because she was more focused and not as difficult as she normally is! I'm so proud of her!!!

Jeff is in Dallas this week, and we are missing him! It is so hard to explain to Lyla that papa is gone for a week, but will be back... Two more days! Below are some pics of the kids from this week
Sweet girl, smiles more every day!!
Liem is always making a crazy face...
I know that I've told you many times how much Lyla sleeps. I am not exaggerating at all! Today after school, I gave Lyla hugs and told her I will see he after work. She looked very sad and looked like she might start to cry. I asked if she was ok and she said yes. I asked if she was tired and said yes. So, I decided that today I would take the kids to work with me for the last 2 hours of the day. This was Lyla about 5 minutes after we got to the office...she slept for 45 minutes, even through the phones ringing and people coming in!

Toothless Kiddos!

Liem is finally catching up!

Tuesday was Jeff's birthday, here is a pic of him with the kiddos before we went to dinner
Lyla has not had a good week in all! She has been hitting again, throwing her snack, talking/yelling in the hallways, pouring milk in her desk among other things. It is so stressful! I am having a hard time getting off work to be able to go to the school and spend time with her. I spent about 3 hours with her on Monday and that was the only day I was there to help. I need to try to figure out how I can balance my time at work and still be able to go to school with her a few hours a day to help.

On a positive note, she has said a few new words & phrases this weekend! She has started saying "bless you" when someone sneezes; she is adding "thank you" (sounds like fwaintu) after she says no; she asks for "drink"; she is saying "you're welcome". The other night we went to a Japanese restaurant for dinner, she picked up the menu and requested pizza. It was hilarious! The one time we go eat rice, she wants pizza!

Slowly but surely she is speaking a little more English! She isn't speaking much Chinese anymore right now. She will only talk a few times a day, when before, it was constantly. It is going to be very hard to go through the "silent time" when she doesn't have a language anymore.

Please keep her in your prayers that she will do better at school this week!

Please Pray

Our sweet girl needs some extra prayers right now. I spoke to her teacher this afternoon and Lyla is having some trouble at school. She isn't following the rules like she should be, she is talking (or yelling) constantly, gets up and walks out of the room, won't keep her hands to herself, at carpet time she will just lay down and laugh (nobody knows why), today she was hitting her friends, her attention span is very short and she is  defiant at times. These are the reasons that Jeff and I were so hesitant to send her to Kindergarten. We didn't think she was ready for the strict scheduling. Keep in mind, she is a 6 year old, but she still acts like a 4 year old most of the time...a 4 year old that doesn't speak (or understand) very much English, has been thrown into a stressful situation, doesn't have anyone that she can communicate with, is no longer familiar with her surroundings. She is wonderful at home, so I think it is also hard on her to finally get a family and then be away from us all day 5 days/week. I asked Mrs. Lyman if she thinks that school is too much for Lyla to handle right now and she said let's give it a little more time and we will see. Next week I will go to class with Lyla for a few hours each day. This way, I will be able to correct her and hopefully help her to understand the rules/directions. I'm not too concerned by what Mrs. Lyman told me today, because it is exactly what I expected (minus the hitting). So, any extra prayers right now would be great! She is an amazing little girl and I can't believe I've been blessed with the most wonderful kids in the world!
This is Lyla at 7:30 at night!
On a positive note, it is SOCCER time again! Liem loves soccer, this is his 4th season to play! He is very athletic and loves to watch and play any sport out there! Jeff and I hope that he sticks with soccer because he loves it & is a natural!
Thank you all for your love and support! It means the world to us!

Easter Weekend

We had a very fun and busy weekend! Saturday morning we went to Bella Vista and hung out with Mindi at Riordan Hall. They had an Easter egg hunt and a carnival for the kids. It was so much fun for all of us! Thanks Mindi for the fun morning! Lyla was hilarious, as I've mentioned a million times, she is EXACTLY like Liem was the first 4 years of his life. She is very analytical and everything has to be in it's place. She would pick up an egg, put it in her basket, if the egg opened, she would put her basket down on the ground, pick up the egg and the piece of candy that fell out, place the candy back in the egg, close the egg, pick up her basket and start again. Needless to say, she didn't end up with very many eggs at all! Lucky for her, Liem gave her a lot of the eggs he got! He is the best big brother in the world!

End of the successful hunt!

Face Painting

After church on Easter Sunday, we went to Jeff's parents house. John, Serena and Hannah joined us for a fun afternoon! Mike and Naomi cooked us a wonderful lunch and the kids hunted eggs. We didn't get a very good family pic on Sunday because it was very windy and bright outside...this is probably our best family shot of the day.
